So its 4.30Am in the morning and I'm wide awake. The joys of jetlag! Plus the huge sound of the ferry horn leaving the harbour, which is MILES away, but sounds like it is right nextdoor. Why they feel the need to let us know they are leaving at this time of the morning, I don't know... Anyway, this blog entry is going to be rather boring as I haven't really done much, apart from arrive!
The plane journey was EPIC. I felt like I had missed Canada and they were taking us to Australia instead. I was bored after 4 hours. There was about 10 of us on the group BUNAC flight, we all met at Heathrow airport, finding each other by our little baggage tags and also the amount of luggage we all had! It's amazing how well we all got on immidiatly, united by our leaving England for our big adventures. We soon realised that we were all over 20, which meant that the group that had left in the morning and managed to blag the direct flight, were probably the 18 year olds. So we aptly named ourselves the OAP group and said that they put us on the in-direct flight through Edmonton becuase we were meant to be the responsible ones... I wished I was 18 again!
We stopped in Edmonton, which looks barron and flat from the air and had to go through immigration, which was a culture shock for us as they had 1 person working at that time and she was SLOW. Luckily I was 2nd in line so me and the guy in front shared a small celebration that at least we would make it to the next plane on time! It's a dog eat dog world folks.
Luckily the next plane was delayed slightly, so we all made it on to the next plane. It was tiny and awful and my ears hurt immensly. I was going to have a word with the pilot as I think he could've done a better job! But I suppose he got us there in one piece...
We arrived at the Downtown Vancouver Hostel International at 6Am England time, somehow it had taken us 16 hours to get there. All of us were confused as to how it had taken so long, but sleep soon took over and we gave up wondering. Until we woke up pretty much every hour from then on, resulting in a Penny that looked like she had gone 2 rounds with Tyson.
We went for a wonder aroung the streets of Vancouver, saw the Gas Town clock steaming, but it was the wrong time for it to be playing the Pompey Chimes. So I stood and sang my heart out of some football chants, just to make up for it.
The orientation was fun, in a long infomation packed kinda way. But it did result in picking up a 'Cell Phone' at a cheap price of $43 and $35 a month rental. I've never had a contract phone, so I can now cross that of my 'things to do in life' list. It's a pink and colour screen thing, so it already knocks socks on my old phone.
Deborah came and picked me up at 3Pm and we partook in some weightlifting to get my suitcase in the car, I warned her not to sue me for any injuries she may have recieved. The boys came home at 5Pm, including Hugh and they were a little hyper, apparently I caused that. Oh hang on, Hugh wasn't hyper...just Ethan and Elijah. We ate and chatted, they appeared to really like the Pompey gifts I gave them, Ethan had just lost his watch and Elijah hadn't got a piggy bank yet, so I did pretty damn good on those gifts I got them!
I'm trying to wrap this up as I have written a book, all before 5Am. The family has the day off today (Friday) so we are going to a Pumpkin Patch!!! Hallowean is HUGE over here, people have gone all out decorating their houses. I am looking forward to seeing them in their natural state and not sitting in a bin in the supermarket...
I really should try and sleep some more. Hopefully next time I will have some pictures, for the people who are put off by so many words or are in a hurry, can get the jist of what I'm up to! First I need to buy a camera...
Stayed tuned people.
