We didnt get off to the best start when we landed in Nadi, it was perfect weather for ducks and Robyn nearly got thrown in a fijian prison for smuggling tinned goods and an apple over the border - she just couldnt let go of that last granny smith!! Steph couldnt believe her hidious lying skills but she smiled and got away with it - thank god the security was male!! We didnt care for mainland Fiji too much but we had a look around the town and got summoned up to the top floor of a shack for a Kava (mud like drink) welcome ceremony where Robyn was the chief and we had to drink the stuff out of coconut shells! We were assured "my friend"(!!) that it didnt contain anything dodgy but we weren't so sure as we felt pretty spaced out for the rest of the day! The next day we catamaranned it out to the Yasawa Islands to our new home - Mantaray Island! We were drawn in by the 3 buffets a day + its beautiful beaches, but we turned off by its composting toilets and restricted showers (freezing cold for 3 hours a day only!). We relaxed into "Fiji time" very quickly and spent the subsequent 10 days relaxing on white sand - paradise! As our resort was so remote, we had no choice but to end up at the main bure (the bar!) where we had lots of fun nights with fellow mantaray backpackers, one in particular involving a campfire on the beach and many a late night dip in the sea, however after Steph decided to go in in her pants we remembered to wear bikinis every night after that! Stephs birthday was a cracker! Started on the cocktails at lunchtime and had a big party in the evening involving a crew of about 25, drinking games, a big pink cake (thanks Robyn!) and of course the compulsary midnight swim! Althought we were on Fiji time, we did manage some snorkelling in front of our resort which was very spectac, and also a visit to a Fijian village! Cant believe we are home in 2 weeks - get ready for some serious homecoming celebrations!! xxxxx
