I nearly had a disaster today. I left a bag on the rental car company bus that had my boots and Sassy's boots in it. But thankfully we got delayed at check-in and the bus driver brought the bag back to me.
We had an early start this morning as we were flying to LA via Chicago. On the drive to the airport we got to see another part of Philadelphia. It is a very arty city and there are over 3000 murals around town. We saw a few of them this morning. We also saw 2 enormous sports fields - probably for baseball and football.
There are a lot of homeless people in Philadelphia. I wonder what happens to them in winter.
We had to return the car this morning to the rental place. When we pulled up a man looked over the car with a hand held device. Then he handed us a receipt and said we were free to go. We had driven 3832 miles.
There was hardly anyone around when we arrived at the check in counter. A United man helped us check in through the kiosk. He made us pay $25 each to check a bag in. That is such a rip off. We were just about finished when I put my bag on the scales. It was 14 pounds overweight. Robyn's was 4 pounds over. The man was going to charge us $100 each. I had no choice but to pay but Rob took her 2 jumpers out and that took it back to the 50 pound limit.
It was while we were delayed here that the bus driver bought my boot bag back. I am so lucky. He must have dropped off all the people and gone back to the rental depot before he found them. I am very grateful to him.
The flight from Philadelphia to Chicago took 1hr 40mins. We then had just over 1hr before the flight to LA. That flight was 3hrs 37mins. When we got to Chicago, time went back 1 hr. When we got to LA it went back another 2hrs.
There was a big queue at the car rental place and the prepaid international customer desk was closed. We finally got served and went out to pick our car. It was a Mustang convertible. Thanks Jane!!!!! The man who served us told us there would be several Mustangs in the garage but some would have cloth seats and some leather. He suggested we look for the leather as it was a better car.
We couldn't even work out how to get the roof down and had to ask the man in the garage. We had to put our bags on the back seat as they wouldn't fit in the boot. It will be a bit squishy when we have 2 bags and have to go to the airport.
We headed for our hotel in West Hollywood. It was a beautiful sunny afternoon - perfect for a convertible!
After dropping off our bags we went out to the Citadel Outlet Centre. It was pretty cool cruising down Sunset in the Mustang, with the palm trees on either side of the street. We are very lucky to have good weather.
It looks as though the West Hollywood part of Sunset Boulevard has been fixed up since last year. There are new shops and restaurants and the strip just looks cleaner.
We don't have any definite plans for tomorrow yet. We might drive out to Malibu as we haven't been out there before.
