Rob's Travels
ok so i have probably been neglecting the whole travel journal thing recently here goes...
NIMBIN
nimbin was a quiet hippy mountain town with pretty much b***** all to do - except buy some kind of illegal substance or hug trees... there was a sign saying "jesus wore hemp" and a code of life with lots of rules and very wierd things on a wall somewhere... thankfully we didnt stay there for very long!!! We did manage to buy some "nimbin cookies" - they were rubbish - didnt work at all...
SURFERS PARASIDE (sufferers parasite)
Probably the worst place known to man - didnt stay here for very long (2 hours!!) this place was tourism gone wrong - imagine florida mixed with ibiza! URGH - had a hungry jacks milkshake...that was pretty much it..
BRISBANE
on the way to brisbane we had a free ZORBING expirence - was sosososososo funny - the three of us were put in this massive blow up ball which had about 60 litres of water in it and pushed down a hill....amey fell on her head!!! upon exiting the ball it looked like we were all being "reborn" so hilarious!!
Spent one night in brisbane itself - not much to do quite a boring city...had a few drinks....the most eventful thing was a guy getting kicked out and arrested for drunken and disporderly behaviour at 3 ion the morning - so much abuse!
NOOSA
Noosa is such a beautiful and chilled out town with not much to do except laze on the beach or by the lake. We were intending to do kayaking but two people got there before us and stole the last two! grr! Met Richard and Hannah - Richard was probably the closest thing to a real life alan partridge - such a nice bloke - Hannah was just so nice - really go on with those two!
we also went to Australia Zoo.....the whole way we watched a video on the life Steve Irwin and then when we got to the Zoo there were loads of pictures and billboards of him everywhere! why!?
We went to see a couple of shows in the "Crocoseum" coz there's crocs and you see'em! AHAAA! We saw Snakes, Birds, Tigers which were awesome and the best show by far and then, of course the Crocodiles. We fed elephants (awesome) and stroked a couple of koalas - there wer so soft!
The kangaroo heaven was awesome - they were free roaming and so you could go right up to them and stroke them - i made a friend (i like to think an ally). We left with an air of disappointment after not seeing SHHTEVE IRWIN.
FRASER ISLAND (by amey boles)
Fraser Island is the largest sand island in the world.....which means it is the largest sand island in the world (made purely of sand.)
We stayed in Fraser Roving Backpackers and the 4x4 beast like cars that they gave us to drive around the island were...........bright pink - legend.
Sadly we couldn't drive as you need to be 21 or over but it was still the funniest thing ever sitting in the back of the pink monster love machine, trying desperately to hold the bags and eskies and tent bags etc in place whilst driving over the roughest tracks you ave ever seen in your life. It is entirely possible that everyone in the car sustain some form of brain cell depreciation due to the amount of times we all hit the roof whilst sailing over a cliff like formation of sand...all in the name of fun!!
First day we got off the barge and drove to Lake Wabby which is about a 40 mintue walk from the beach and although it was peeing with rain the majority of the time we were walking to the lake, whilst we were at the lake and on the walk back to the pink love heart.
The lake was stunning, on one side was a forest and on the other hundreds of sand dunes strectching about 5km back from the lake.....so weird. We all swam i the lake because we figured that we were wet already (bloody rain) and it was only when Amey and Emma started discussing the fact that there were clearly monsters in the deep bit that everyone made a rather rapid exit!
That night we all camped at Dundaburra Campsite and it was great fun, had a BBQ. Su for us, we finished supper and all felt it was very late and were just hinking about going to bed when someone thought to look at the clock and told us that it was infact 6.30pm......it had been dark for hours - how is this possible??!!
Next morning our car had a falt battery because we had the lights and ipod on the night before...oops!
We went to Indian Heads and look out over the sea and saw Sting Rays and Turtles but sadly no tiger sharks or whales then we went to the Champagne Pools which is the only safe place to swim in the sea on the island due to deadly currents and tiger sharks...nice!
We also went to Eli Creek which is the largest river on the island and walked up it as far as we could, it was the clearest water we have ever seen, stunning!!
That night we cmaped on the beach and after supper we lay on the beach and watched the stars, no light pollution at all so it was stars as far as you could see......Amey saw 5 shooting stars in 2 minutes.
Final day we all woke up to find Dingoes in amongst our tents, so cool....they are actually really healthy and fit to look at. We all got up really early and drove to Lake MacKenzie which is the real beauty spot of the island. Stayed there fore about 4 hours, including about half ans hour sitting in the car hiding fro the rain. But then it was awesome sun shine for the rest of the time. We all swam and although it was cold it was also horrendously clear and so we stayed in for ages, loving it.
Got on the ferry back to the mainland and driving on normal surface was the weirdest and smoothest experience ever!!
Fraser Island is like nowhere we have ever seen.......such an amazing place!!
MAGNETIC ISLAND
Hello everyone! We are just on Magnetic Island off the cost from Townsville. The Island is the most amazing place. Quite small with amazing beaches and some of the best weather we have had so far. We got here two nights ago and had a problem with our hostel (twas minging) and so moved hostel to Base Backpackers. Its nice. We have our own cabin and it has a wicked bar. The whole thing is right on the beach, as in if i was to walk out the internet room now i would be ten steps away. We love it here and we get to share it with all the Oz bus and new friends so we are having a wicked time.
Today the plan is to get some peds and have a look round the island. The boys (Mark and Andy) have hitched the road and say it should be good fun, so we are just chilling till we all wake up and then we will get off.
We spent two days when it was raining trying to make the ugliest photos known to man. So they will be up soon. As you can guess Emma and I won hands down - you know it.
