The weather was perfect as foretold by the reception staff!
We checked out before we set off for the train station to catch our GeoPark bus to the Ropeway station. Along the way, the bus stopped for us to grab some scenic photos of the mountains and the fields. There were some tourist boards etc, set up for visitors to take photo with. There's this old man selling some sulfur products as well, we wondered where he got all his stash from.
At the ropeway(basically a cable car), we bought a return ticket and set off straight for the crater. The crater was smoking and its supposed to be the dangerous sulfur fumes. I was informed that if the wind direction is towards the visitor's area, everyone will be evacuated and the place closed until the wind direction changes to a more favourable direction.
Dear whipped out her DSLR and me with my humble fujifilm, we took a lot of photos and of course not forgetting to cam w**** with the volcano. hehe. We did a short hike around the crater and had a lot of fun along the way playing with the lava ashes! Ai Si Ni le my dear! Dear is really good with photograhy and took really flattering shots of me! MUACKS!
Oh! And there is this Argentinian which dear hooked up with from somewhere and he pushed ahead trying to conquer the crater at the point we turned back and ended up really in a sorry state. Lucky me for having dear around, else I might just went on as well!
After the crater, we went down to the plains called Kusasenri. Its a really open area where horses and cows are supposed to be grazing but I guessed they moved somewhere else during winter. The ground was laden with "mines" though and we had to tread carefully.
We did lotsa jumping shots here and it was sooooooooo fun and funny! I think this was the only place we jumped! And dear swore she loved me with all her life at this place too, only after I piggy backed her up a slope! hahahaaha. Loved carrying her la! Will do it again anyday anytime!
After the hyper activities, we got on the next bus and went back down to the station and back to the hotel. Went back to the same place for lunch/dinner and then collected our stuffs from the backpackers and went back to the station to catch the bus to our next destination, Oita!
