Hello all,
Hope your all well. Sorry its taken awhile to bring you a proper update but we have free internet now so here it is.
Bangkok - our first hotel was a bit of a dive but had a pool and was very close to town. We were a few minutes walk away from the infamous Kao San road which is where lots of the backpackers hang about. Theres lots of market and food stalls, bars, restaurants and annoying men selling suits (thanks for the heads up Paul). It wasnt as big as we'd thought it would be but it was very cheap. On our second night we had a massive meal and got a bit pissed for around 20 quid all in and bought novelty t-shirts on the way home.
We gave up our passports in order to obtain visas for Cambodia and Vietnam at out hotel which takes 2 working days but it was the weekend so we had to wait longer which meant we stayed in Bangkok a couple more days. These cost us quite a lot to this but worth it was it put our minds at ease as occasionally at the Cambodian border you can be turned away without a visa. We went for a massive walk around the surrounding area and walked around the Kings residence which is massive but you can't get in and you can't see anything from the outside.
Next we moved into a much more luxurious hotel but the problem was it was a bit out of the way. Close by was a very nice shopping centre which had loads of restaurants so was very handy for food. We discovered that Bangkok has a very good metro system which is very cheap. We got the metro and visited a very nice park and went to the part of Bangkok which has all the mega expensive hotels and ridiculously big shopping centres. On our final full day in Bangkok we got a Tuk tuk (a motorbike attached to a carriage - nice and safe) around to loads of different temples and then he took us to the river. This all cost us about a pound. We also visited the Royal Palace which was amazing. It was full of beautiful grounds, amazing buildings and gold was everywhere.
So all in all Bangkok is either extremely rich or extremely poor. Theres several things to see in Bangkok but a lot of the trips offered at the hotels involve travelling away from the city centre.
We're in Cambodia now but pictures will up soon.
Hope your all well.
