Round the World 2006
Hello everyone once again,
I have now travelled a few thousand miles and am on the other side ot the world in melbourne! But quickly back to india first. The last time i emailed i think i had just riden an elephant, so here's some of hte stuff i did in the rest of india. After the elephant we went to jaipur where we stayed for a couple of days, whilst there we saw the palace of the winds, and drank beer out of tea pots! You have to have kingfisher out of tea pots because of the lack of licences! Beer out of a porcelain mug isnt great, but exceedingly funny! We then had a long hot jeep drive to ranthambore national park, we arrived and went straight on bengal tiger safari. On the way into a park i got sung to by beggars and mobbed by sellers! We saw loads of deers, monkeys, wild horses, a crocodile, but no tigers!! Very frustrating! The following day we went to a local womens refuge to see how local crafts are made, before heading to Bundi across the indian dessert. In Bundi, a small town, we spent our time chilling at the hotel, looked around the local palaces and forts. We saw the local dentist on the side of the road!! I will alsways brush my teeth now, it made me feel ill!! At the hotel in bundi we met a young boy called 'dev', a very sad story really. He spends all day at school then has to work all afternoon and evening to support his family, one fantastic young guy and the amazing thing is he was always so happy. The follwoing day was valentines day, so naturally we went with a few people for a candlelit dinner overlooking the town in the fort. We saw an amazing indian wedding on our way back, they sure know how to party! We caught an incredibly early train the following day, at half 6 (!!) to meet our king. We stayed with King Narendra Singh at his palace, it was trully amazing! We got treated light royalty! Bowed to along the streets, had guards, endless servents, and amazing rooms with a pool!! Apparently a lot of celebs visit him to detox and chill out. He took us on a little drive to see soem tribal people, endless amounts of opium fields and sunset over an amazing lake! Such a great time! I did miss yoga on the roof int he morning though due to mild delhi belly - it soon cleared up though! The follwoing day we caught a local bus, 6 hours long, it was gruelling, an expereience but not one to be repeated quickly!! We arrived in Pushkar, where we transferred to pick-ups! An open top drive to our next palace, Jagat Palace again an amazing place with a pool. It even had a dude with a spear at the door protecting us!!! Pushkar was such a nice place, full of hippies but so chiiled out. It has the holy lake surrounded by ghats which you can literally stare at for ages! Its so relaxing! We went on a camel safari for 3 hours into the indian dessert, my camel was called Ujala abd he was led by a nice local guy called Shanka. Awesome experience, scary when it gets up though! We boared our overnight train back to delhi, it was surprisingly comfortable and fun, the only annoying thing was we had to get off at 5am!! We arrived back in smoggy delhi, it was so mad, back to the carnage! We went out for breakfast with our group to say our final farewells. We had the best group ever, the majority were really nice people, some of whom we plan to meet up with in brisbane! We then flew to Mumbai with SpiceJet on Mon 20th, we spent four days in mumbai. We saw all the sights including the gateway of india and the amazing Taj Hotel. Mumbai is so different to Delhi, you still have the poverty but it is so cosmopolitan in areas it was nice! On the Friday we flew to Sydney with Qanta, before getting a domestic flight to Melbourne. A very long day travelling, so what did we do when we got to Melbourne, we went out to celebrate the return of westernisation!! We have met up with the two other guys we are travelling australia with, and have been up the railto tower, been to St Kilda and to the amazing Crown casino - it is simply amazing!! Tonight we are off to Lara before going down the Great Ocean Road tommorrow!!
I have written this in such a rush so it probably doesnt make sense! Never mind i have so much to see and do!!
Hope all is well with everyone, it would be great to hear from you soon.
Luv Rob
