Wednesday 10th November
A day of travelling! Our pass means we do a loop of the south island so we had to travel from Queenstown back to Christchurch....this was quite a long day made all the worse by the fact that the air conditioning on board did not work so we were all cooked.lol! We set off at 8am and arrived in Christchurch at about 5.30pm. We had a few stops along the way to break the journey up which was nice including stopping at a little church called the 'the church of christ' which overlooked the sea... it was absolutely beautiful!. Once we got to Christchurch we sorted our rooms and then the boys went for curry and beer in the hostel whilst me, Sarah and Leah had a girls night and went for pizza!
Thursday 11th November
We had to on the bus at the most ridiculous time....7am aaaaaargh! We arrived in Kaikoura at midday so me and Rob had a lovely relaxed afternoon. Kaikoura is a beautiful seaside town so we had a walk around the town and went to the sea where again you can see lots of seals on the rocks/ swimming, and in the evening we cooked salmon pasta (i thought you would be impressed mum) :) In the evening we all went to the local pub quiz and out of 14 teams Team Awesome! came second so we won a tab for free drinks! whoo...it is all that practice at the Governors.lol.
Friday 12th November
9am start! we drove from Kaikoura to Picton to get the ferry over to Wellington. The ferry crossing took 3 hours, it was ok to start but gradually got more and more rocky so me and Sarah spent some time outside getting fresh air.lol. We got to Wellington about 5pm, and we can see why it get its nickname 'windy wellington' from! we were wind swept as oon as we got off the bus.lol. Me, Sarah and Leah went in one dorm and the four boys went in the other. The girls room looked ok on first impressions until Alex sat on one of our top bunks and the whole base gave way as there weren't enough wooden slabs to support it.lol...and then as if it couldn't get any worse we had the window open and the wind slammed it shut sending the metal hinge/lock flying so we have a gale in our room.lol. but as Rob said 'nothing a bit of masking tape can't fix!' lol. We cooked a meal in the evening and then we all headed out for a few drinks at the night.....we returned to our pit at 3.30 am!
Saturday 13th November
We are spending two nights in Wellington so we had a lie in anmd a late breakfast before heading to the Te Papa museum which was great. It is free to get in and you can easily spend a whole afternoon here. There were various exhibitions including, 'our planet' which shows you how the earth is formed/ functions etc, 'Maurie' which is all to do with the native people of New Zealand and many more. It was very interesting and the seven of us who went even had maurie tatoos put on our arms which the lady kindly informed us (once on our arms) take several days to come off! lol. Tonight we are having a chilled night...pizza and maybe a film and hopefully a relatively early night as we need to be on board the bus at 8am tomorrow!
