Landed in Kuala Lumpur at 4:20 this morning. After 5 hours - middle of night flight, legs locked under the seat that is 3.2mm in front of my unusually prominent nose - after that five hours, Vanessa turned to me, smiled, in a way that could only be described as lovingly, and breathily said,"you have got to get another job. One that allows us to sit, (stretch, lie, do aqua aerobics or whatever) in first class."
First thing I am going to do when the revolution comes is ensure that those who choose to fly economy, and who enjoy sitting like a pretzel does, will not have to walk through the acreages that the elite enjoy in first class as we walk to our salt crystal sized crampertron.
So a night flight north, over the red heart, over the Timor seA, Kalimantan, the Java Sea, and so many islands, brilliant with light in the blackest water. And then as we came towardsMalaysia, at about 3 am, clusters of what looked like huge bonfires in the middle of the water. Even from 12000m they looked massive. The steward told us they were fishing boats- quite small, that use the light to attract squid.
