Three am start- what a difference the time of day makes to the airport journey. Lounge deserted at 4.30 but by the time we boarded flight it was full of people eating their fried rice and noodle breakfast .

Long drive up to foot of merapi volcano . Road still covered with volcanic dust 14 months after last eruption, incredible how quickly the vegetation and cultivation has returned.
Walk through Chinese new year markets behind hotel. Food cooked on street stalls looked delicious but did not to want to risk it. can't believe we stayed up to 2300 with nothing but a nap .
