A very Merry Christmas from Koh Samui! It's currently 10.25pm as I probably write my last blog for a few days as we head to do some beach camping and other activities in Kao Sok National Park. Tomorrow we venture away from the island back to the mainland at 7.15am. From there we catch a songthaew. The best way to describe a songthaew is to say it's like an army ute with two sets of benches on either side. There are a few different sizes of these things but generally enough room for 8 people in the back with luggage being strapped on top. From there we go to Kao Sok national park, home to wild tigers, elephants, monkeys and whatever other wildlife Thailand is home to. Generally speaking all the animals in the national park just like others internationally are protected. Supposedly there are poachers still hunting male elephant tusks which is sad to hear about.
So back to today, we woke up early and had a lovely buffet breakfast on a veranda down from our room. The resort of Lamai Buri is where we have been staying since yesterday afternoon. A pleasant, tidy and tropical-like resort on the eastern side of Sumui island at Lamai beach. We had a relaxing couple of hours in the morning at the beach finding some beach chairs shortly after walking down to find some of our recently acquainted fellow group members. A couple of juice smoothies later, Caitlyn and I went back to the hotel for a dip in the pool and some chill out time by ourselves. Christmas night was spent in an Irish restaurant & bar chowing down on some cheeseburgers and chips. The last 12 or so days of the tour we have ate Thai food so it was time for a change. My stomach has turned Thai and didn't agree with the change of menu but we won't go into that. Overall *touchwood* we have done well with our meals and haven't had any truly bad experiences. On our way returning to the hotel we bumped into our group having the last few bites of their meal at a restaurant nearby. The tour group leader talked me into having a few brandies, we chatted for a couple of hours before heading back for an early start to Boxing Day. Breakfast at 6.30am, leaving at 7.10am. Bags are all packed in advance as usual minus some laundry that we are waiting on being done for tomorrow morning and we are good to go!
