So after the carnival we were on a semi-nice bus to Argentina which would take us around 20 hours. It was long but not too painful apart from the breakfast that was pretty much sugar with sugar and a side of sugar! Very sweet nasty coffee, some chocolate biscuits and some caramel! Oh and one or two crackers! Felt a little sick eating so much sweet stuff at 8am!
We got a taxi to our hostel, Hostels Inn and were quiet amazed when we pulled up. The first hostel we had stayed in with a large pool and poolside bar! Posh for a hostel! The place itself was nice and spacious with good rooms. Some of the staff however were rather sharp and sometimes rude - one in particular would give a short, sharp answer before turning her back on you after asking her a question. The other annoying thing was that they only accepted cash at reception and at the bars, yet they NEVER had change to change some money!! Very silly as you needed small change for the buses as they wouldnt take large notes... so not all of the hostel staff were overly helpful.
The first day we had booked a tour with a tour company in the town which included a jeep tour and boat ride once inside Iguazu Falls National Park. We were waiting for a bus to the park when a taxi driver pulled up and said he would take us there for ARG$20... we said no as the bus would cost us only ARG$10 in total so he drove off seemingly in a bit of a huff. Then two other people came to the bus stop and along comes the same taxi asking those two the same! He said he´d take all four of us for $20 so we all went in one cab and we got to know these two people who were from Ireland, called Tash and Steven. We got to the park and ended up going our separate ways seeing as we had booked a tour but we did meet up with them later on and ended up getting the bus back with them too.
The tour was amazing and well worth the money. We jeeped through a bit of jungle and saw several huge spiders and some other wildlife before walking a little way down to the stream where we got on a speed boat which took us up to some of the falls. We got some great pictures which are on Ruths facebook profile and we were even taken under some of the falls and got very very wet! Lots of fun! The rest of the day was spent wandering around the rest of the park, seeing the various waterfalls and wildlife that roamed around. Some people even lost their sandwiches to the gutsy animals that climbed onto the tables and ran off with their lunch!
That evening we paid to have the BBQ at the hostel and spent the evening chatting and getting to know Tash and Steven.
We had planned to do the Brazil side of the falls on our second day but there was a problem with the banks in the town and none of them were giving out cash! So unfortunately we couldnt get the money to pay for another tour so we just chilled out at the pool, although the weather wasnt constant sunbathing-type! That evening we went to the town and had a meal with Tash and Steven and a few drinks in a couple of the bars.
The next morning we said our goodbyes to our new friends and left to get an 18 hour bus journey to Buenos Aires.
