After Kununurra, we made the short trip up to the Gibb River Rd and headed for Home Valley Homestead which is about 70kms along the GRR. This also involved crossing the infamous Pentecost River, with its crocs, rocky bottom and variable river levels. When we stopped short of the crossing to check out the water level prior to making our crossing, we watched a guy drive half way across, stop, jump out of his 4WD and start wading (quickly) downstream!?!?!?! After 50 odd metres we realised he was retrieving his spare wheel which had fallen off, half way crossing the river. He got back to his rig pronto, threw the retrieved wheel on the bonnet and jumped in the cab and finished the crossing.....very ballsy (or stupid???)
We spent our first three nights on the Gibb at Home Valley Homestead, in full view of the magnificent Cockburn Ranges. This piccy is of some dry falls and pools, just off the road, beyond Home Valley. It was very quiet and remote and we spent 20mins watching a large water monitor go about its business in one of the pools below us
