Roaminallover-Here, There and Everywhere
When we last posted we were on our way up the Gold coast from Sydney towards Brisbane- having made our last stop at Yamba following a marathon drive of about 7 hours - well done john. :)
We moved off from Yamba having had a leisurely breakfast and a short stroll along the beach tops, expecting a drive of about three and a half hours according to google to reach our Workaway destination at Dayboro- just north of brisbane. we made good time and arrived around three. We hadnt got any directions to where we were staying - so just dialled each of the three phone numbers we had been given. Each one produced a number discontinued message- UMM....2 hours til dark, and we were out in a beautiful area in the mountains miles from wifi and motels etc- so after checking whether the local coffee shop owner knew the people we were visiting we headed back towards the coast to find wifi so we could book somewhere. GOOD OLD MCDONALDS. I feel a bit of a fraud as i dont usually go in at home - but here they have really good coffee and cakes in the mccafe, free wifi, plugs and really helpful staff- Not sure how the UK division went wrong. After about half an hour we had located a backpackers hostel at Caloundra further along the coast. We decided to book for three nights as this would take us past the wedding rehearsal and then we could decide where to stay. When we got to the hostel - again thanks to staff in Mcdonalds for providing directions we dropped a line to the workwayers to explain we had not turned up as the phone numbers wouldnt work. We felt awful when we got the reply and found out they had tea ready for us and everything. Anyhow we sorted things out- they sent directions to the house and we arranged to try on Sunday- so fingers crossed we should be doing some hard labour next week.
We made the most of our time her in Caloundra with a trip to Australia zoo yesterday - hence all the animal pics. This is the Steve Irwin Crocodile Hunter zoo at Beerwah. There was a couple of really cute Koala bear joeys who kept me entertained for quite a while, and of course i had to revisit my friend Eric the Ecidna. It was nice to chill out without too much driving.
Today was rehearsal day for the wedding- so most of the morning was taken up with that, followed by a picnic by the sea. The sun even stayed out today - and managed a nice 24 degrees so very relaxing.
Anyway must dash- Australia has Talent is coming on.....well what else can you do at night when it goes dark at 5 OClock? (Please don't write in to tell me i'm quite happy with Ozzie telly)
