Friday 9th - Sunday 11th MayRob and I had an early start as we had booked a three day liveaboard diving trip to the Great Barrier Reef.As the Pro-Dive III Cat headed out of the harbour the queasy feeling came over, within about half an hour the sickness started and continued for the next 2.5 - 3 hours until we reached the reef - good start!I managed to make the first dive, (we had a total of 11 dives over the three days) and started to feel a little better as time went on.We did three dives, plus a night dive on the first day, a further three plus a second night dive on day two rounding off with three morning dives on day three before heading back to dry land.Rob managed all 11, I had no desire what-so-ever to venture under the sea in the dark so played no part in the night dives. On the last day I got up and did the 6.30am session but cried off the other two trying to prepare myself for the homeward journey. This trip was a massive learning curve for us both as most of the dives were unaccompanied, we were given a briefing, then told to go off an explore.Through panic I was using my air quicker than Rob which had previously been unheard of!We were trying to complete the suggested route, spent a fair bit of time trying to navigate around that we were forgetting why we were down there which was to look and enjoy!Eventually we realised that the idea was to go at your own pace, dive at the depth you feel comfortable with and enjoy what is around you.It is a magical place to be when you can gaze around and see pillars of beautiful coral and the prettiest little fish just swimming alongside you.We saw green and hawksbill turtles, white tipped reef sharks, humphead parrot fish, chevron barracudas, giant trevallies, groupers, emporer fish, angel fish, sea cucumbers, nudibranchs and so many other fish, sea worms etc it was wonderful.I have made Rob prepare lots of pictures so hopefully you can enjoy some of our sights as well.We dived at two outer reefs Millin and Flynn, and various dive sites within those reefs, Petaj and The Whale at Milln, and Tennis Courts, Gordon's Mooring and Tracy's at Flynn. All in all it was a great trip, I don't suppose it will be our last diving trip, but I'm not sure if we will liveaboard again.Sleeping on a little tiny bunk bed was very strange, Rob had the top bunk and as our cabin was on the top deck, when the sea blew up a bit in the night it nearly rocked him off his bunk!We were getting our heads down around 9pm, but not before we had chance to see the starry skies, I spent ages just staring up, for me another magical moment - looking up at the Southern Cross.I really wished I knew what they all were.We returned to Cairns around 4pm, absolutely shattered.
