Why anyone goes to Mandalay is beyond me. A busy, dusty city, crammed with cycles and motorcycles. On both days my chest was tight from dust inhalation. Glad that we are only here a short while.
On the plus side, the people are so friendly. Hannah Louise and I have each got a USP that they enjoy and smile at CONSISTENTLY....
I, a big bust and plump arms.
Hannah, blonde hair that's usually out for all to see.
Louise, height!
Our hotel was modern in appearance, with door men, porters and a smiley reception team.
Like popping a Revel into your mouth, with high hopes its a toffee, only to chew and reveal that its that awful orange centre, this hotel was dissapointment.
The cleanliness was the worse I've experienced!! Breakfast was manageable. Thank god that we've only been here for 2 nights.
We dined at a basic Nepalise restaurant on night 1 and a Thai restaurant called 'Rainbow' on day 2. Rainbow was excellent. Hannah really enjoyed the pancakes and I, the Lassi's.
The most memorable part of this city was the Mandalay Modern Art Exhibition, which we happened upon during our walk.
A small display of maybe 35 paintings and sculptures, happily situated in what looked and felt like a 1920's Civic Hall. One of the artists, an ex-Psychologist, who was around 80 years old had excellent english had studied his degree at a European University and enjoyed s good chat with us. After being encouraged to be in every photo with almost every artist, with each one of their paintings, we were pretty much convinced that we would be the cover photo on the front of next years brochure!! We'll see!
