The morning after the Poo Pub Party was not a pleasant time for anyone on the bus. It was mildly amusing to see who the most hungover was but only until your own one kicked in then you had to suffer. We had a quick stop at the Bushmans centre which was fairly bizarre-we saw a video of guys jumping off of helicopters onto the backs of deer!
The next day was the heli-hike on Franz Josef glacier. The only glacier in the world surrounded by rainforest and also the fastest moving. We got a helicopter up over the glacier and then landed on it to do a hike through ice caves and tunnels. It was incredible. The views were stunning and the ice was so blue. That night the girls all got pissed but i managed somehow to not touch a drop, finally-a night not drinking!
The next day was glorious. We stopped at Lake Matheson to take photos of Mt Cook reflected in the lake. We then made the drive through the Haas Pass to Wanaka. Truly stunning scenery-it looked like Scotland but just bigger. When we got to Wanaka most people off our bus went down to the lake cos the weather was so good. Really good day just sat by the lake sunbathing, playing football etc. Then i went for a swim out to the floating diving platform. All good until i had an asthma attack on the way back in and had to be pulled back in by my guardian angel Gemma. It was a bit scary for a moment and it took me about an hour to get my heart rate back to normal. Had a BBQ in the bar and sat next to the open fire in the beer garden.
Next day we made the short drive to Queenstown where we were reunited with Aaron and Magnus from our North Island bus. We made a quick visit to the lakeside cos the weather was so good and then it being a friday night and adding the fact that we'd met freinds we hadnt seen for a while we thought it was only fitting to go out and get wasted...and that we did. Drinking cocktails out of a teapot in the world bar was a highlight as was when Sex on Fire came on and the whole club just lost it.
Saturday was a bit of a lazy day with a wee bit of ahopping and walking around. Had a few on saturday night but had an early night cos the next day i had a day trip to Milford Sound. I saw pictures of Milford when i was about ten and i had wanted to go ever since. So i'm really glad that i made it there. The drive there was incredible too but the sound itself was breathtaking. It was very, very windy on our boatrip around the sound but i still loved it. We saw Penguins and Fur Seals too. The sunday night was a bit wild, everyone took their turn to go a bit mental but it was still good. I must give special mention to the burger place here. The first burger i had there (I've had 3 now in 2 days!) was without doubt the best burger i've ever had. The 1st was a simple beefburger with lettuce, tomato, red onion but it was the special dressings and the blue cheese that i put on it that made it so special. Amazing.
Only 5 days left in NZ now and it seems strange that i'll be leaving and going elsewhere but i'll cover that in my next installment...
