Puerto Iguazú
31/01/09 - 01/02/09
After the Brazilian waterfall excursion we crossed the border into Argentina, which ended up being far more of a ball-ache than it should have been meaning we got into the town of Puerto Iguazu pretty late…there are times in Latin America where buses are definitely the cheapest and most convenient forms of transport, yet the are times when they are an absolute nightmare. To add insult to injury we endured possibly the worst nights sleep of the trip so far, with zero sleep thanks to some loud mouthed cockney idiots…you just can't get away from them, even on the other side of the world. So following a switch of hostel we headed for the Argentinean side of the national park which was even more magnificent than the Brazilian side. The Argentinean side is considerably bigger and consists of numerous trails through the forestry along the canyon. You can see from the photos that there was just waterfall after waterfall, at times 30-40 in the same vicinity which cant be captured on a still photograph. The climax of the day though was the area of the park known as the devils throat. First we crossed a bridge over the mouth of the river that fuel the falls, which is three quarters of a mile long, again something which is incomprehensible without seeing it. At the end of the bridge is the viewing platform, the falls form a horse shoe shape and they are so big that you struggle to see the bottom. The power of the water rushing over the edges is magnificent, but at the time pretty scary as and between there was also a rainbow formed as if it was rising from the canyon. On that note I will leave the blog there, until next time adios!!!
