July 3/4
Out last day in Argentina. We spent the morning walking to the point in Puerta Iguazu that is at the confluence of the Parana and Iguazu Rivers and overlooks Brazil and Paraguay. We able to see the two countries a couple of days ago at another spot, but this was a much better view. As we began walking from the hotel a small black stray dog started walking with us. He was with us for the whole hour and a half walk. We nicknamed him Messi. He would walk ahead every once and a while, but he would always wait or turn back for us. He was like our guide for the city. On the way back we picked up some of his dog friends. At one point there were five stray dogs walking with us. As we were walking along the road the dogs would see a motorbike coming, hunch down, spring, and run after it as it went by, nipping at the drivers heels. They apparently had something against motorbikes, or it was their idea of sport. At the end of our walk Messi turned into the bus station, which was across from our hotel, and we did not see him again. We are forever thankful for Messi, our guide dog of Puerta Iguazu. As we got back to the hotel the bus was waiting for us to take us to the airport and our flight to Buenos Aires. Our trip from Iguazu to Buenos Aires was uneventful and we landed on time. We landed at the national airport and then had to take a van to the international airport on the other side of the city. The good thing was we finally saw the Rio de la Plate (River Plate), the bad was the two hours of Buenos Aires traffic we had to endure to get to the international airport. After about 14 hours of flying we landed at MSP about 8:45 AM. The only hiccup in the journey was that Ellie left her iPod on the plane in Atlanta. We filled out the necessary forms online so hopefully we will get it back. We had a wonderful trip, but we are glad to be home. Many thanks to Mark, Beth, Nathan, Jacob and Toni for taking the journey with us. Thanks to all of you who followed on the blog.
