Rich & Beths World Tour
Hi everyone,
So we are now in Nha Trang, we having been moving down the east coast of Vietnam pretty quickly so i have a couple of places to update you on.
We spent a couple of nights in Hue which was a cool place although definitely not one of our favorites. We had a nightmare of a bus journey to get there - 15 hours overnight of which i got zero minutes sleep (no surprises there! Rich of course got his sleep in) The best thing about the journey was we met 3 wicked English people, we all got on so well we ended up traveling with them for a few days. We were good little backpackers and thought we best do the main tourist attraction which was the Citadel - not only was it really expensive to get in but it was also very disappointing. It's basically a walled city of which was heavily bombed by the Americans. We also did a perfume river cruise and visited a coupe more temples - think they will be the last ones now (hopefully) until Angkor Wat as we are already a little templed out. We chilled out in the evening with our English friends and Rich and I continued our Rummy championship (I won!).
Our highlight of Hue was when we got on sum motorbikes (mum don't worry everyone travels by motorbike here so its really quite safe) and went on our own excursion into the countryside. It was great to get out of the busy city and see a bit of some 'real Vietnam' countryside. We passed lots of paddy fields and drove through some typical Vietnamese villages (everyone working very hard in the fields and women cruising up the river beds). We arrived at a little bridge and met some adorable Vietnamese children. We taught them some English words to add to the ones they knew (beckham etc), left them our pen and some paper they were thrilled. We then headed back to the town of Hue.
Our next stop was Hoi An - Rich and I really liked Hoi An - it was very relaxed and there lots of lovey Vietnamese shops not to mention about a thousand clothes shop where they make customized clothes. Despite this the highlight of Hoi An came when we were having dinner and then i heard somebody scream 'Beth' i turn around to see my best friend Naomi standing behind me with Gaz and helen - it was incredible that we bumped into them. Obviously we knew they were in Vietnam but we didn't quite know where. We had a great night drinking and playing pool in a bar (Rich is getting quite good now with all his practice and its always FREE!) We spent a day on the beach which was lovely and very relaxing, walked around the old town for a bit and generally spend 3 days chilling out and playing cards. Oh and having some clothes made of course. We both got some posh suits made and a trendy jacket. Mum you should be receiving these in about 2 months - so keep them safe.
On our last day in Hoi An we went to My Son, some cham ruins which were interesting to see but it was very hot and quite expensive. We said our goodbyes to Nay, Gaz and Helen after having spending great couple of days with them and headed to Nha Trang!
Having heard Nha Trang was Vietnam's version of Brighton, we were pleasantly suprised to realise that it is anything but! Today we've been on a boat cruise around some islands and a visit to an aquarium which was pretty cool. We also made some more friends so we're off for some dinner with them in a bit!
Thats it for now
Lots of love to everyone
Beth and Rich
