Bet you can't guess where we stopped today on our way back to Heathrow .... Thats right ... Stonehenge.
Its strangely smaller than I remember, but that could also be because I was 8 last time I saw it and so was significantly smaller myself.
Yes as you may have surmised, today we left Mum and Bill and headed back to the airport to fly out to Bangkok for the next part of our adventure. It was sad to say goodbye as we had such a great time with them, and as always with such a large physical distance between all of us, you never know if and when you'll all see each other again.
So finishing off on a high note with a breakfast of eggs and bacon for Bill, Richie and myself (a little delicacy Bill likes to indulge in when he has willing co-conspirators) we packed the car, punched in some co-ordinates into the Sat Nav and headed off to Stonehenge and then the airport.
We did have a little detour to Lyme Regis for lunch on the way and I mistakenly ordered the jacket potato with crab topping. Not quite what I was expecting ... they are big on BROWN crab meat over here, or perhaps, just big on it when making toppings for jacket potatoes ... its an acquired taste and not one that I necessarily want to acquire For those that don't know what brown meat is ... its basically any other part of the crab that is not the white meat ... its brown, sloppy and smelly ... not what we are used to in Australia, but not uncommon in other parts of the world ... in fact I think we are the exception to the norm in NOT using the brown meat when divvying up the crab.
Anyway .. Stonehenge .. what can I say .. its a bunch of rocks steeped in history ... some standing up and some lying down ... some grey, some blue ... some big and some small. Its a little hard to take it all too seriously however. Based on the official tape commentary, no-one has the foggiest idea what it is there for. There are a bunch of different ideas being thrown around, but no one can say definitively what it was used for. Hence my sarcastic description. BUT .. One thing everyone agrees on is that it is VERY old and the actual construction of it is quite intriguing.
From there it was onto Heathrow where we spent some quality time in Englands largest carpark, otherwise known as the M25
So ... after 7 hours of travel, we are finally checked into the lounge at the airport and are now filling in time before our flight leaves at 9:30.
Hence the hasty blog update and series 700 of Brick Bat ... yes I'm still winning
When we wake up tomorrow we should be in Thailand where we finally get to have a holiday on our own. I am in no way implying that we haven't loved the rest of our holiday but it is nice to spend some quality time on our own ... especially seeing we know how busy the final few months of this year are going to be workwise.
Speak to you all again from Thailand
