Our trip to Hong Kong started with a very cheap over night bus, it was a sleeper bus so we all had a bed...great we thought, but as the beds were 1.7m and Rich is 1.9m it was not so great for Rich! So after a 'good' night's sleep of clinging onto our beds for dear life as we flew around the bends at 3am we were at the border to HK! We arrived at the border with no currency and no way of getting out of passport control as we could not pay for the bus....As it turns out it was the wrong border control altogether....luckily we met a lovely Hk family who had lived in Manchester, they not only paid to get us through the border but also pointed in the right direction and sent us on our way to explore Hong Kong!
We jumped onto a twenty minute ferry across to Lama island just off HK island and managed to find somewhere relatively (In comparison) Cheap to stay. Lamma Island was beautiful, with a beach, cliff walks and some amazing sea food; it was a good escape after a day in the massive HK!
For our first day in HK we got a bus up the near vertical slope to 'the peak' which over looks the whole of the city. We had a picnic at the top then strolled down to Soho where the longest escalator in the world is, unfortunately it only goes in one direction and that's up....which is unfortunate as we wanted to go down! So we walked alongside the escalator all the way down to the bank of China tower. Here we climbed to the 43rd floor to the 'look out level'-amazing!....Even if Rich's legs werea bit wobbly!
After seeing HK from many angles we got the short ferry across the river to the Kowloon district where we strolled around the markets and enjoyed watching the ceremony of lights. This is where all the sky scrapers in HK dance to music by lighting up, you can watch it right on the water front. The next day we got the escalator up (Easier than down) to Soho and went for lunch and a wonder around the food markets. We then boarded the peak tram back up to the peak to view the city by night at the sky view terrace....unbelievable! We sat with a pick and mix and watched the sun go down and the city light up!
For our final day in HK we headed to Disney land to join in with the Halloween celebrations! Rich had never been to Disney land and so was more excited than most of the children as we got the Disney line into the park. It was an awesome day of rides, parades and fireworks...apart from Shelly wimping out of the haunted house after she was close to tears in the possessed jungle! A trip to Disney WORLD is now on the 'to do' list! We got a brilliant picture of us smooching Minnie as a reminder of the day!
After a dash through the airport we managed to make the 'final boarding call' for our plane to Borneo....smooth start!
