So for the 14 hour trip here we decided to save a whole 9pounds and opt for the hard sleepers, bunks 3 people high with no walls and as many people as you could possibly fit in! HA… good nights sleep. Once Richard had finished giving a 3 year old girl evil looks for eating and getting rather comfy on his bed we finally tried to get some sleep. Think we crammed in about 4 hours thanks to the Chinese men snoring, and Chinese women having arguments at 4am!
Thanks to our 2007 guidebook we managed to arrive at our hostel which had been relocated. When we did make it to the new 'Sims' hostel, it was ace! With bamboo Chinese gardens right in the centre of town and few turtles and rabbits along with a gym and chill out terrace for good measure.
We headed straight out to Leshan to visit the giant Buddha, the biggest Buddha in the world at a whopping 71 meters high! Once trekking up to its head and taking the obligatory picking the Buddha's nose pictures we began our descent to its toes! One toe nail was bigger than us! We managed to fit in a few other temples and gardens before heading back to our hostel. That night we got Chinese takeaway… no longer will takeaways back home live up to this kind of standard!
Giant Panda day!
We jumped in a taxi to the panda breeding centre, it only cost 10p to get in thanks to a dodgy little bloke in a supermarket selling panda cards! The pandas were so cool and we saw loads of them…they definitely love having their photos taken!
We booked our train to Chongqing, which was a measly 2 hours compared to Lauren and Rich's 24 hours to Guilin! We said our goodbyes and headed for Chongqing to start our boat trip down the Yangtze river!
