Rich Round The World
Hey again!
Arrived in Cambodia two days ago and it was the worst jouney of my life! It took over 12 hours by road from the island in Thailand to Siem Reap. Thailand and Cambodia could not be more different. As you walk across the border from Thailand to Cambodia the road turns to a muddy path, the buildings are run down and the people do not look as friendly towards you. We took a car from the border to Siem Reap, which we were told it would take 3 hours-well double that . We went straight on one muddy path with holes and bumps everywhere across the vast empty fields for hours and hours. It turned to night and there was a great thunder storm. I thought we would never get to the city!
Siem Reap is a bit more developed than the border city of Poipet and i was suprised to see so many tourists and luxury hotels. This city is only catered for tourists visiting the temples of Angkor and everything is expensive!
We visited the main temples yesterday which were amazing. This morning got up at 4am to see Angkor Wat at sunrise. It was a bit disappointing as it was too cloudy!
Tommorrow Stephan and Jo (the guys from Frankfurt) head back to Bangkok and i continue my adventure down the Mekong Delta to the cambodian capital of Phnom Penh.
Write again soon,
Rich
