27th June Nanjing
Nanjing is about 2 and a half hours by train from Shanghai and has been the countries capital twice. So historically its quite an interesting place.
Here we visited mainly visited a nearby mountain called 'The purple mountain' which has lots of historical sites on it. On of which we visited was,
Dr Sun Yat-sens Mausoleum. Dr Dun Yat-Sen was a man who in general terms started uprising in China and led them to a short period of Democracy.
The mausoleum and other sites such as the massive stone pagoda were really impressive. To get to the top of the mountain you could get what was called a cable car… in actual fact it turned out to be a Cable Chair. It was still really fun and peacful as it took an hour to the top.
I like Nanjing, there seemed to be a more natural quality. What I mean by this is that you feel like if you weren't here then life would go on regardless. As we walked around its streets, we saw mass line dancing, people singing and general people gathering to enjoy the night air and the company of family and friends. This sense of community that you see in china every now and then is one of the things I like best about the place.
