18/1/10 - day 40.
got up at 7, eager to make a full day of it. was pretty overcast morning, so wasnt hopeful of a nice day but me and jen decided to go to visit pulhapanzak where there is a 43 metre waterfall on the river lindo. it was only a couple of bus rides away which and was really good. we were able to go with a guide into, around and under the waterfall, also to a couple of small cave-like areas under it.
the sun came out while we were there which was good, and it cast a big rainbow on the spray that was coming off the waterfall. id forgotten how difficult it is to breath when you´re underneath and it wasnt a pleasant feeling! the park there is pretty big and apparently gets packed at weekends and holidays with locals and tourists. however, this was not the case at 10am on a monday morning, so we pretty much the only ones there.
afterwards, we went back to the nearby town of peña blanca. i bought i new pair of flip-flops as i had left mine outside my room the previous afternoon and they were gone in the evening. we also had lunch there (the usual suspects of beef, rice, beans, salad and tortillas) and used the net for a bit. it had been a painstaking 24 hour wait to find out the arsenal score against bolton away. delighted with the news of our 2-0 victory.
got a taxi back to the brewery about 4pm, had a unneccessarily hot shower (its hot or nothing at this place) and sat in the garden for the rest of the afternoon with an elderly vietnamese/finnish couple and a french dude. he made me slightly nervous about the place i was going to visit next - tela - and he had just come down from there and someone had been shot in the middle of the town. by that afternoon he said, it was back to business as usual like it was routine stuff!
a guest and the owner got their guitars out in the evening and entertained the people sat in the garden while we ate (a large quesadilla). went to bed about 9pm.
