Have now arrived back from our trip to the Outback. Strewth! it has been a bit warm 38 c in the shade most of the time.
First day (Sat 10th Dec) was an early start with a 555 am pick up outside Alice Todd Appartments. Our first stop was the camel farm where we also saw some kangaroos and a dingo up close. We went on to Kata Tjunta, eventually a lot of km s later arriving at Ayers Rock in time to toast a fantastic sunset over the Uluru. Still getting used to the cuisine - not sure about the camel burgers!
The night in our safari accommodation was basic but fine! A bit like camping but with sheets and blankets and raised off the floor. We were not really prepared for the even earlier start the next day (350 am) but managed to do it and it was a truly magnificent sunrise over Uluru - followed by a swift walk around the base camp and some very welcome fruit cake - thanks Bender and Eve!
Moving on to Kings Caynon we were now going truly up Market with accommodation and there was even a swimming pool! Another night in our deluxe camps and another early start in order to start and finish walking before the temperatures got too hot.....
Fantastic walk right down into the Canyon accompanied by Griff dressed as One of the drag queens from the film Priscilla queen of the desert.......well done Griff! Arrived at Glen Helen where there was even a pub! Beers all round very welcome before a short walk around the Ormiston Gorge -certain ready for sleep now.....
Finally arrive at day four with a relative lie in - 730 am start fantastic! Not fully prepared for the off road driving - will certainly not complain again about the roads in the UK ....beautiful scenery throughout the MacDonnell range - followed by a picnic lunch en route to Alice Springs and a well deserved relaxing day enjoying the Springs and preparing for the next stage -
moving on to Cairns and the coast.
