Tonight we fly out of Africa and start the Asia section of our trip. We can't believe how quickly the last thirteen weeks have gone past and how much we have done in that time. Africa is an amazing continent with such a complicated and difficult history and, of the countries we visited, most still have a challenging future. Despite this, nearly everyone we met was happy and friendly and made us feel very welcome. We definitely recommend Southern Africa as a holiday destination (it's further from the Ebola infected countries than the UK) and would be happy to provide suggestions, if helpful .
As we have now completed the Africa section of our trip we decided to pick our top ten moments so far (listed below). We will also soon upload a selection of our favourite videos and some timelapses (we're having some technical issues at the moment).
Next we have c.24hours of travelling followed by 4 nights in Mumbai in a swish hotel (thanks Manu!) before we fly to Nepal. We plan to trek the Annapurna Sanctuary (not the route that was affected by the cyclone last month), but we need to work out what is possible given the after effects of the cyclone. We will, of course, be sensible and safe!
Top ten moments:
- Watching the mother lion call and feed her cubs in Moremi N.P. Botswana.
- Elephants raiding our camp in Linyanti Campsite, Chobe N.P. Botswana.
- Going on a cruise along Chobe river front and the huge mass of wildlife, Kasane, Botswana.
- Cape Town (although not a 'moment', we just loved it), South Africa.
- Playing with Badge, the honeybadger in Tenikwa, Plettenberg Bay, South Africa.
- Flight over the Okavango delta from Maun, Botswana.
- Staying up until 3am at the Okakuejo waterhole in Etosha N.P. Namibia.
- Watching crocodiles fight over a fish in Nkhotahota, Malawi.
- Viewing the 'little five' desert creatures in Swakopmund, Namibia.
- The Victoria Falls to Bulawayo night train, Zimbabwe.
