This Blog contains the journey from Eucla to Esperance, a giant leg.A restless nights sleep was had by all as the wind thrashed the van for the night. We naturally woke early so after some bacon and eggs we were off.Again there's not much to write about the scenery. We did, appropriately, see the iconic Wedge Tail Eagles feasting on the bodies of the recent fatalities (I mean kangaroo road kill, this isn't Wolf Creek just yet). The eagles were a sight to behold but sadly a sight not to be photographed. Every time we slowed to try and get a photo they got cautious and took flight. An ever increasing redness started to work it's way into the landscape as we ventured further west. The long arduous miles were made easier with the help of the Harry Potter talking book. I fell into an almost trance like state and if you asked me to re-collect certain parts of the drive I would be unable to. It somehow felt good, almost meditative. With a few fuel stops under our belt we arrived at Norsemen. A town made famous by a horse named Norseman who discovered gold in the region by being bored and kicking up the dirt.We had originally planned to stay the night in Norseman but changed our minds as we drove through, craving civilisation by this time. So after a few photos of Norseman (the horse statue) and the metal camels (eh?) we were off to Esperance.Another 250kms away. With Harry Potter still casting spells through my 30 watt 6x9 speakers I wondered if this is what Sparky is like playing World of Warcraft. I'll have to ask.We got to Esperance and set up camp. We had crossed two time zones, covered over 1,000kms and had been driving for 12 hours. To say we felt a bit dazed was an understatement but went to bed again with that sadistic sense of achievement.
Gem's note: Bloody exhausted by the end but good old Harry Potter kept me going. The joy of one straight road…no navigation required by me!
