India and Nepal 2022
I was up early this morning to pick up my tuk tuk which would take me into the capital Colombo for the Independence Day celebrations and parade. Fernando, my tuk tuk driver has stickers of Jesus Christ and Bob Marley adorning his vehicle, which is an interesting combination. Security is tight and there is a slight tension in the air. There are plenty of army soldiers with rifles all along the route and all the military top brass and political leaders are here. The dignitaries all arrive in their BMWs, Mercedes Benz, Range Rovers, sometimes accompanied by police outriders. The parade of different military regiments is fantastic - very colourful and musical and its a real treat to be here. After the military displays come the dancers who again are incredibly colourful and full of vitality as they process down the wide avenue in front of the Presidential box. I am about 200-300 metres to where the VIPs are assembled and close enough to see all the sights of this 67th Independence Day parade. What a privilege.
