Ric Flack's Travels
I was up a little earlier today and went out on the verandah to read. We were due into Cartagena around 8:00 so I was surprised that there wasn't any land visible. Around 7:30 I went up to deck 10 to see if there was land on the other side of the ship. There wasn't any but, guess what....it was raining when I got up there. I went back down to the room and Nikki was watching TV. Kelsie had come in after midnight last night and Regan around 2:00 so they were both sound asleep. I got in the shower and then Nikki did and then we got Kelsie up at 8:30 so she could shower before breakfast and we could make our 10:15 shore excursion. We went up to Topsiders for breakfast and it began to rain again while we were there. After breakfast we made our way down to the Walt Disney Theater where our shore excursion was scheduled to meet. It turns out that there were 500 people on the excursion. They broke us up into groups of 120 people and then walked us down to the gangway and out to the busses where they broke us into groups of 25 or so people. The excursion was called the Best of Cartagena. Our tour guide was named Sergio. We went to the Walled City and saw the oldest part of Cartagena. We also saw a Monastery within the walls of the city. In the church is buried the most famous priest from Cartagena, San Pedro Claver. He is buried in a glass coffin and the girls were a little creeped out by that. We then went to the Dungeons, a prison that has been turned into a flea market. After the dungeons we went to a shopping area where we could purchase emeralds and other expensive items as well as more flea market items. We were then taken by the Fort of San Diego and then up to a Monastery that sits on the highest point in Cartagena. From that point we were able to see the entire city. It was really interesting and very different than I expected Cartagena to be. When we got back to the ship the Colombian Police were searching everyone's bags for drugs so the line to get back on the ship was really long. We ended up being in line for about 25 minutes just to get back on the ship. Kelsie and I grabbed a snack from Deck 9 and then we all chilled in the room before getting ready for dinner and going down to Lumiere's. Our theme tonight was A Taste of the Caribbean. After going by Shutters Nikki and I went for a walk on the Promenade deck and then met the girls for the show. The show was Sarah Litzinger and David DeVries who were performers in Beauty and the Beast on Broadway. Sarah was the longest running Belle and David was Lumiere. Tonight we also had a Tropicalifragilistiexpialidocious Deck Party after the show. After that Kelsie went to Ocean Quest and Regan went to the Stack. Tomorrow we will be at Sea.
