Ric Flack's Travels
Today we were docked in Skagway, a town with a population of 900 people. We had an early shore excursion today so we had breakfast at Beach Blanket before heading to the Walt Disney Theater.
As we got off the ship, we met our tour guide Garrett who drove us about half an hour to the mushers camp. From there, we took a UNIMOG (army truck) up to the top of the camp where we met the dogs who were waiting to take us on our sled ride.
The sleds were designed to hold 6 people and were on wheels since there is no snow. Our musher Miriam talked to us on the ride explaining about the positions of the dogs in the team and even had to move dog because the lead dog was fighting with her neighbor. We had a little time after the ride to meet the dogs that pulled us which was cool.
We then took the UNIMOG back down to the base camp where we heard history of the dog sledding.
Then we got to meet some 6 week old puppies and hold them for a little while before getting back on the bus and heading back to the ship.
After lunch on the pool deck and a little break we headed to Wave Bands for our next excursion via helicopter to the Meade Glacier. After getting all suited up for the ice, we took a 20 minute flight to the glacier where we spent 45 minutes walking around and learning about it. We even got to drink water from the melting glacier. The helicopters came and got us and took us back to Skagway.
Since we had time, we walked into Skagway and did a little shopping before heading back to the ship to get ready for dinner.
We were in Parrot Cay for dinner tonight with the Caribbean dinner menu and an added fourth of July option.
After dinner we went to the special Flag Waving American presentation in the lobby before we went to see Monsters University in the Walt Disney Theater
