The Kiwi Bus picked us up at 9am but we had to sit at different ends of the bus as everyone who was already on there, decided to have 2 seats each, and no-one was kind enough to sit by their friends so that we could sit together. Not a huge problem really, but after 7months of traveling, things like that really start to bother you. Our first experience of mud pools was at Wai-O-Tapu, where we stopped for 20minutes to get some pictures of bubbling mud. It was pretty crazy to watch and smelled really bad too. We stayed at Base in Rotorua and finally treated ourselves to a double room. The day after our caving adventure in Waitomo we went to Kuirau Park to look at the mud pools and the geysers. Some weren?t much to look at but others were great, got some good pictures too. Ben found a hot bath for his feet and had a dip, his feet turned lobster red when he got out as the water was so hot. It looked like he had a pair of socks on. We also took a walk around Lake Rotorua and found the biggest geese in the world. After lunch we decided to spoil ourselves and visit the Polynesian Spa. It was really relaxing. 5 naturally hot pools ranging from 38-42degrees. They were boiling and we were grateful for the rain which started to fall while we were there. Managed to last 90minutes alternating between the pools but that was enough as I started to get lightheaded and the 2litres of water I had drunk whilst being in there didn?t help as I had a headache all evening and went to sleep by 8pm. Rotorua is a must on the North Island, the only thing we didn?t do was the Maori ?hangi? but we?ll probably do that when we pass back through with the campervan. Both enjoyed it here but the smell of rotten eggs is a bit of a pain and no matter what anyone says you do not get used to it!
