Day 29 - Chengdu: Panda Reserve and Museum
Today was the day that I had been looking forward to the most! Visiting the Giant Pandas at the Panda Reserve. The gardens were beautiful, we got to see the older grown up pandas and some teenagers. We got to look into the nursery and see a 2 week old baby (which had no fur and was pink) along with the twins who were 2 months old, they were asleep in a cot. The most active pandas were the 1 year old pandas, they were funny playing together and rolling around like puppies. We watched them for ages. But the highlight was watching Mum patting the 2year old panda while he chomped on apples - his favourite treat. I took lots of great photos, Dad says I am getting really good except I forgot to get them to take one with me. Silly me!!
After the pandas we went on the bumpiest road ever, all the road was cracked and full of potholes due to large trucks using the road. All our insides were churned up making us feel unwell. Unfortunately lunch was shortly after the bumpy road, so we didn't eat too much. After lunch while we were waiting for our guide Dad found some sleeping fish in a pond. I dared him to touch it so he did. It didn't move! So he poked it with his finger several times and said "wake up fishy, why are you sleeping?" (Nemo). It woke up then with a start and swam away so quickly that it swam into a pole that was in the water. We laughed so hard that I was crying. We then took a short walk to a museum that was full of artifacts that were over 3,000 years old. It was interesting but a bit boring.
When we got back to the hotel we were craving western food. Aunty Jess found a restaurant on line, so we took a taxi ride to the Shamrock Irish pub. It was awesome, they spoke good English, Dad had a Guiness while Mum enjoyed a Barcardi Breezer. We all had a chicken parma with chips for dinner and it tasted great.
