We were picked up from our hostel this morning and taken to Ao Tha Lane jetty where we set off on a kayaking expedition of the bays, canyons and lagoons of the area. We were a little unlucky with the wildlife but we still managed to see lots of crabs and a big monitor lizard sitting on a cliff side rock. It was good fun, the weather turned out really well and we had a nice group too. Next we were packed back into the Songthaew we came in to have lunch at the Ao Tha Lane resort. Yummy chicken with potatoes (Thai style!), battered fish pieces in sweet chilli, plenty of veges and the ubiquitous rice. We were then taken out to Nosey Parkers, a place where elephants once used in the logging industry are looked after and take tourists on a short wander through the grounds, mainly rubber plantation and jungle. We then feed them a lunch of pineapple quarters and watched them bathe in the river. It's hard not to feel slightly ambivalent about this place but the elephants looked well cared for and would be put down if not for this type of activity. It's just such a shame that the illegal logging industry has caused so much damage to the wild elephant population here. They really are the most lovely creatures! We returned back to the hostel and decided that after all that activity we needed to chill out. We therefore wandered to 'Body Kneeds' for a Thai massage. Well, how can I describe this! It was amazing! Lots of folding you in knots and pounding your muscles into submission! They played a song from our wedding half way through which made Howellsey and I giggle and remember why we are here in the first place! The hour long massage cost £5. We will certainly be repeating the experience while in Thailand!
