Today was pretty jam packed! We were up early to be taken on a full day trip of the main sights of the Cameron Highlands. First we headed to the Sungai Palas tea plantation where we were treated to some cool scenery (see pic!) and a brief on how the tea is picked. Then we went to the highest point in the highlands which can be reached by vehicle (awesome!) called Gunung Brinchang at 6666 feet. Again we had beautiful views to admire. We then went for a very short walk into the mossy forest and our guide was showing us all the cool trees and plants that grow in the area such as citronella, wild ginger, a plant that coagulates blood when crushed and a plant that's used as the basis of tiger balm and deep heat (love that smell!). We were then taken to the tea factory itself where we were shown how the tea is withered, sifted, rolled, fermented (oxidised), dried and sorted. We then had a lovely cup of Palas Supreme, a blend of garden tea best drank black after exactly 3 minutes stewing. It was really nice given I don't really drink a lot of tea! I was thinking of you loads Emily, you would have loved it! We then headed to a small reptile and butterfly farm (meh) and went for lunch in a Malaysian restaurant in Brinchang. After lunch, we visited one of the strawberry farms for which the area is also famous. There is strawberry memorabilia everywhere! We had some strawberry juice which was fab and the hydroponics used to grow the strawberries was pretty impressive. We also visited a local museum, a Buddhist temple and the Brinchang night markets which were good fun. All the usual strawberry stuff was available as well as an amazing array of battered fried vegetables and other specials such as fried crabs and prawns, pancakes filled with peanuts, satay and boiled then grilled corn on the cob. Phew! Time for a chilled out evening I think!
