This is our last night in Ayutthaya. No photos tonight i'm afraid, the computer I'm using is ancient and I fear that attaching my camera to it may finish it off! We\ve had a great day, we hired bikes and cycled between different ruins of ancient temples. My first ever experience of road cycling, and I decide to do it on hair-raising Thai roads, dodging tuk-tuks, mopeds and tourist coaches! It was so much fun!
Before we came to Ayutthaya, we stayed in Kanchanaburi for two nights. Here we went to the Death Railway Museum, which was amazingly moving, and we went to see the Bridge Over the River Kwai (the film was not filmed at the actual bridge, apparently, it was filmed elsewhere in asia!(
We had a cute little room in Kanchanaburi with a terrace out onto the poolside. The only down side was the penchant for noisy pets that the guesthouse owners had.....there was a tiny cat with the most horrific squeal, which it enjoyed performing outside our window throughout the night, and the myna that wolf-whistled every minute or so!
We're off on an evening boat trip tonight, during which we'll see sunset and all of the ruined temples lit up. Then we're going out for a meal, to one of the quaint restaurants on our road that are filled with tourists (this is actually quite nice, as it means the atmosphere is jolly and we can chat to people....maybe I'll bump into the girl I saw yesterday, who had the same graduation T-shirt as me, indicating that she left Sheffield Uni the same year that I did! We're catching a 12-hour sleeper train tomorrow night, to Chiang Mai......can't wait, the place sounds amazing!
