The final blog entry! What pressure!
These last two weeks have been spent cruising up the east coast of Australia, we've clocked up over 2000ks. The highlight was undoubtedly the lovely Fraser Island. It put me rather in mind of the Meerkat island in Life of Pi. We spent two days bashing through the sandy floored rainforest in a 4x4 bus, whizzing up and down the beach Dingo spotting, and swimming in some gorgeous fresh water lakes in the centre. The sea looked pretty tempting too but after spotting a 4m shark from the shore we decided this was best given a miss. Dan even took a scenic flight one morning in a teeny tiny 7 man plane spying stingrays and shipwrecks from above. (I was tempted, but someone's gotta keep an eye on the bags…)
A close second was venturing on to the beach in Mon Repos last night and watching 100 or so baby turtles volcano up from their nest and head towards the sea (before they were scooped up by researchers/the odd well-meaning but quickly reprimanded Chinese tourist). It took us back to the volunteering we did in Costa Rica in October 2012 (where did all that time go?!) although without the added adrenaline rush of perhaps bumping into a poacher. The sky was just as clear, easily seeing the milky way and heaps of other constellations we learned about stargazing in Chile.
Anyway, enough of the sentimentality, life goes on and we can't wait to see all you lovely lot back at home. Oh, once we've made up for last years missed ski holiday, that is! See you in Samoens….
