So here is 2013 and we brought it in with a Bolivian bang, well relatively - we couldnt keep up with the locals who were still going at 7am!
We have had a lovely lazy week in Sucre, south Bolivia, to enjoy Christmas and New Year. It is the perfact place to relax and prepare for the next leg of our trip into Chile.
We even managed to find some of the key ingredients for Christmas - Turkey, fizz and Gin!
New Year was ushered in with several thousand partying Bolivians (and even a couple of fellow native Somersetians) in the main square with lots of handheld fireworks and bangers to mark the occassion. We were also befriended by a Bolivian family keen to have their facebook pic with a 'Hombre Grande'......
Sucre itself is a beautiful old colonial town surrounded by picturesque countryside where we took a day trek into a giant crater. The roads left a little to be desired but our driver and guide were no strangers to a pickaxe and shovel as they did running repairs on the road (while we tried not to watch) so we could continue to the next blockage!
We've enjoyed every minute of our relaxation as January is looking pretty packed. From here we head (hopefully) across the salt flats for 3 days into Northern Chile before making our way to Santiago and the visit of the senior Hiles'.
