Today I woke up 8 o'clock and was ready around 10 AM. First I had to go and buy a TAP -card that is used here for public transportation. I was a bit amazed at the fact how few use buses in here. Most people seem to have own cars. All the timeI keep noticing that I totally am the only white person in the bus, rest are latinos and black. Doesn't bother me but somtimes I notice I'm been stared at. Just have to ignore that, I guess. In the centrum the thing changes, though. And you have to make many changes untill you get to your destination, I guess the city is so big that this is unavoidable.
Well, yes, the first day I use the public transportation and see the traffic in here, just as I have noticed the fact that I probably would not succeed driving in here, happens an accident right in front of my nose! I was waiting for a bus at the bus stop when I see a woman turning her car at the intersection when abrubtly a man in a much bigger car comes and takes his car steeply to right and bumps into her car crashing the bumper so that it hangs loose and pieces fall onto the street! And I almost could swear that I saw that the look on his face was contempt when he crashed the car! So the woman parks her car right there and comes cursing and waiving her hands at the man. One shop clerk comes out and helps the woman and tells that he saw it all, other people at the bus stop start talking about the case and an elderly woman asks me did I see it happening. Police officer arrived soon after and they tried to solve what happened, rest is unclear to me as my bus arrived. We weren't needed as witnesses.
So, my first destination was La Brea Tar Pits and Page museum. The picture here is from outside in the park and you can see how one mastodont is trapped in the tar while the rest of the family is desperately watching and unable to help it in any way. In the tar pits huge amounts of ice age fossils have been found. The tar has been a real death trap to animals! On the surface of the pond one can still see how numerous gas pubbles come up and pop releasing the gas. Inside the museum they have many skeletons of the found animal fossils: mastodonts, dire wolves, short nosed bears, smilodons, bisons, giant ground sloths etc.
Next I went to Hollywood boulevard and checked out the Walk of Fame and the many stars on the sidewalk that have the names of numerous "stars". I guess I missed most of the big star names of today, most I spotted were older stars. Propably the most newer ones are situated at the crowdier parts of the boulevard and therefore I missed them. I don't know. Well, I spotted at least Tom Cruise's and Donald Duck's. :) At the courtyard of Grauman's Chinese Theatre film stars have put their feet and hand marks and a message in the cement. This time I spotted for example Tom Hank's, Arnold Swartzenegger's and Hugh Jackman's.
As a result of the days walking I got blisters on my feet. I should have worn those socks or better shoes after all…
