Got up at 4:30 am and took a Tuk Tuk to Siem Reap to see the sunrise on Angkor Wat. Didn't get to bed until past midnight the night before, so it was an early morning. Angkor Wat was spectacular, we also saw up close a lot of small monkeys some with small babies at Angkor Wat. We then went to Angkor Thom commonly called Bayon, it has a total of 49 statues, while walking through the temple I hit the wall, I was falling asleep as I walked so I laid down on a flat slab on rock and slept for 35 minutes while Wendy explored around.
The next temple was Ta Keo, Ta Keo restoration was sponsored by the Chinese government. Chinese porcelain artifacts has previously been unearthed at the site.
Then to Ta Prohm, locally called "tree in temple" magnificent trees had grown into the temple walls and created havoc on the structure, the trees were intentionally left because during the partial restoration of their beauty and magnificence. They are a combination of fig and silk cotton trees. This is also where Tomb Rider was filmed.
Then to Banteay Kdei, it was the last of the temples on the small tour circuit , we finished at around 2 pm.
We then started on the large circuit tour, the first temple was Sras Srang, then to Prerup, then to East Nebon, then to Ta Som, then to Neak Pean. Neak Pean was unique in that it was small and surrounded by a small lake. The walk to Nean Peak was about 300 meters, along side some small waterways that were being fished by children, they were pulling out quite a few small fishes. The forest along the waterways was completely devastated
The last temple if the grand tour was Priah Khan this temple was in great disrepair with many cave in areas. We ended the day by going to watch the sunset at Phnom Bakheng, it was at the top of the mountain, a 65 meter climb. They only allowed 300 people on the top at a time so you had to wait for someone to leave before they would let you up. Also before we could go up we had to grab a pair of pants for Wendy because her shorts revealed her knees and that was not allowed.
