Colleen & Tom's Explorations
After an interesting night we decided to have Brekky down in the restaurant. We were seated at a table for 6 and were joined by Kay and Rod from our tour and a couple from Vancouver. Americans have the greatest portion of passengers on the ship, followed by the Aussies - with 100 fewer. Last night during the strong wind we had difficulty opening our balcony door. When we did get it open, a dragonfly flew in and got itself caught in the light fitting, making for a disturbed night until it liberated itself at 4am by falling on to my pillow!! After breakfast we went back to our cabin and reported the fact that our safe doesn't work. A lady came along and inspected it and said it need the locksmith to look at it and that he would be here by lunchtime. As I write this after dinner, he still hasn't turned up, so I get to carry my handbag with iPad and iPhone in it everywhere I go. Tom says I should leave it in the cabin, but I don't want to be in the "my iPad was stolen" story, and I trust no one!! We checked out the onboard shops and Tom spent the morning resting, recovering from his cold. We had hot dogs for lunch, up on the lido deck by the pool, and ran into some more of our fellow Bunnik's tour people. At noon the captain announced the winds were force 8 gale and that we would have them, and the big waves for another 8 hours. We had no problems with that, though it made the job hard for many of the staff. After that I had 2 hours of spa appointments (massage and facial) while Tom attended a talk on the Falkland Islands. Then it was time for a quick nap before formal dinner time - with scallops and lobsters for dinner!! After dinner we attended the "Meet the Captain" evening and met a lovely Swiss couple. I like the precautions they take for prevention of illness - hand sanitizer dispensers outside the dining room with staff ensuring they are used, as well as outside public area toilets and at the entry to lounges. When we return to the ship after shore excursions we are met with cool damp face cloths to freshen up and clean our hands before embarking.
