Wow, the caves were awesome and terrifying. There is no way they would allow you to go in the tight spaces we did in the U.S., they would be worried about the liability. It was crazy at one point we were chest deep in the water holding on to a rope to get across to keep going, I was terrified and moved like the wind. The water was very, very deep and it was really dark the only light was the tiny flash light our 10 year old tour guide was holding and all I could think was GIANT ANACONDA! We crawled through spaces I was certain one of us would get stuck, thankfully none of us did. I had a vampire bat fly right towards my face after Daymond antagonized it with his flash light. Up and over and squeezing through the rocks and we come to an open space where our seasoned tour guide tells us in spanish about the half scorpion half tarantula spiders that live in the cave. My Spanish is not so good, but I did not need anyone to translate scorpion tarantula I heard that loud and clear. So, we are only half way through the cave at this point and I'm think going back the way I came and taking my chance with the anaconda in the water doesn't seem so bad after all. Then, the tour guide ask for all lights to be turned off so he can tell us the history of how the caves were discovered! I'm thinking huh, you probably shouldn't lead with scorpion tarantula and then ask for the lights to be turned out! I am very happy to report we did not encounter any of the mutated evilness that they called scorpion tarantula, but I also could not hear anything that tour guide said after that or my cousins translation of what was said.
We had to literally climb up a waterfall to get out of the cave and then as if climbing the waterfall wasn't difficult enough we literally climbed up the side of a mountain to get out of the valley we were in. It is very difficult to breathe at this altitude anyway and add the lack oxygen in the cave combined with strenuous exercise, not a good combination! We get to the top finally lungs on fire, legs on fire and sweating profusely and realize we have to climb down to get back to the parking level! Phew, that made me exhausted just typing it! I was doing pretty good going down very precariously when Michaela falls, kicks the back of my legs and knocks them right out from under me, down I go right on my tail bone and we are only a fourth of the way down. We all made it out in one piece.............
