Bex's Travels
We left San Jose on Thursday on a 5 hour bus journey to Tamarindo on the Pacific coast. 7 hours later we were still bumping down the very potholed track to the town in stiffling heat and no air-conditioning! Unsuprisingly there is absolutely no concern with time keeping - the driver kept pulling over to pick people up off the side of the road or let someone on to sell us oranges and lottery tickets! But the good thing was that we got to see lots of the Costa Rican countryside. It is so green and lush, full of trees and very hilly so you don't see the coast until you literally pull up on the beach and from the beach all you can see in land is more green.
We finally arrived at a small surf town full of travellers. It is quite a touristy place but a great place to relax for a few days at the beginning of our trip. Everyone is really friendly and we're getting plenty of tips on where we should go. We also took advantage of 'Ladies Night', which they have in a lot of the bars where girls drink for free all night..!
Yesterday, we had a surf lesson which was hilarious. I'm not sure I'm a natural but I did manage to stand up a few times and catch a (very small) wave in to the shore. After 2 hours of swallowing loads of sea water and being bashed around by the board we were exhausted but will hopefully try it again further down the coast and maybe by the time I come home I'll be a pro!
Tomorrow we are heading down the coast to some smaller, less touristy towns that we have heard about where we can get more of an authentic feel of the place. Then we head to the rainforests next week to do some trekking & canopy walking.
I hope everyone at home is well xxx
By the way - these photos are obviously not ones I have taken. They are handily provided by the website if you enter where you are. Once I have taken a few more I will hopefully be able to put my own ones on there too.
