After spending Day 7 of our vacation saying goodbye to, our friends at the Hanoi Space Hotel, we hop, skip, and jump through Singapore to Bali, Indonesia. The service aboard Singapore Airlines was great and again, in both airports, we're brought to the front of the line for security and immigration. There are certain aspects of travelling with kids that is hard. Some of it very hard. But airport lines? Not hard. Easy, in fact, because they're wonderfully non-existent to us.
We head to the pool after breakfast and meet some very kind people with a girl Georgia's age. They instantly hit it off and play in the pool all morning. The people are all so friendly here - the staff goes out of their way to play with the kids, just like in Vietnam. I suppose I could assume it's because they're hotel staff, but then, we encounter this walking down the street as well. Women all smile at the kids and men are kid-like playful with them. Twice men came up and asked to hold the baby to give him a hug and a kiss. Others wave, give him high-fives, etc. There is a lot of touching of Wilder by strangers here, but it seems very natural.
Kuta Beach is in Denpasar, which is the south side of Bali on the Indian Ocean. The waves are pretty big, which is why surfing is so popular, but it isn't advisable to recreationally swim here. We all play in the sand and water finally getting my feet in 3 of 4 oceans. Since Rory is sidelined with a big ol' cast on her arm, she is treated to a henna tattoo and some hair braids instead. There are vendors on the beach, but not many and they aren't pushy or annoying. One man selling popsicles walks by at a distance and politely asks if he can have permission to offer us stuff. Whether it was thirst from the heat or my sincere appreciation for his manners, we bought popsicles from him.
I enjoy looking down the back roads and over into the residences. I wish I could see inside a bit better, but tall concrete walls surround blocks of homes. The street food is less safe here due to the water being questionable to drink. Although, they have grilled corn over small makeshift BBQs that I simply have to try at some point. That, and snakefruit!
Tonight, I'm going to turn in early with the baby in hopes of catching up on some sleep so my energy levels are a bit higher tomorrow. Looking forward to the adventures.
