We started our day early with the start of a two day Kangaroo Island Safari. On our way to catch the ferry we already began to see lots of kangaroo. It was also quite interesting that this area was actually more dry than the outback.
When we got off the ferry and located the group we would be with for the next two days we thought we may be in trouble!! It was a group of 14 people who were all younger than our own kids. We had booked this tour based on recommendations of another couple we had met while camping.
The day actually went very well with a start at a sheep farmer to hear about his farming operation and watch him shear a sheep. We visited a eucalyptus farm/producer and heard about their operation. Then we went on to the ocean to see the sea lions. We were very close and and got some amazing pictures. We then went on to what they call the "little sahara" where the "young people" in our group went sand surfing. Things were going along quite well until we came to our accommodations and discovered they were going to put us in dorm accommodations! We expressed our dissatisfaction!!!! and ultimately they upgraded our room.
This is a pretty neat place with kangaroos and wallabies everywhere. I could pet one right off of the deck where we had a BBQ. We met our young traveling companions who are from all over the world....Germany, Italy, Denmark, Switzerland, France. We also went kayaking in a river close to our lodging. There was a photographer, David Evans, here this evening getting photos of this area and we needed to sign releases in case we appear in some brochure. Randy asked if they wanted to have a caption that said "yes, even old people can come here and have fun".
