Got into Rome this morning and boy this place is a big. Lots of people everywhere but then again it is like that in all big cities I guess.
I have only a day here in Rome. Yeah I know what your all saying only a day but unfortunately my time in europe is close to an end. I cant believe it had gone so fast. Must be the frantic state of rush I going it at huh.
Rome unlike many of the large cities Ive been to especially in Germany, France and in Sweden seems to not have rushed into the high tech glass and steel of modernity. There are buildings here that of course goes back to the days of the Roman Empire but also more modern buildings built only 30-50 years ago. Stll though at least from what I have seen no modern skyscapers of glass and steel. Maybe Im not looking hard enough.
I walked from the train station, locked up my gear in a locker, grabbed a map and proceeded to view the sites. Wow is all I can say. Everything is about a 15 - 30 minute walking distance from the station. Because of the traffic you really wouldnt want to take the bus anyway. Its better to walk off all the panini and gelatto.
As soon as I exited the station. I was relieved to see a Chinese restaurant, my stomach and tongue sang for joy. I was geting tired of italian food. In most of the cities i was at all they had was these small sandwhich shops that sell paninis, sandwiches, and pizza. Gelatto shops was also everywhere. As I ventured further into the city the restaurnats became less varied. Once again only Italian sandwhich shops. No Sushi, Mexican, Thai, Ethiopian, etc. I walked what seemed endlessly looking for something more flavorful and I was very hungery at the time. I just gave up eventually and had a pizza.
Anyway the Colosseum was huge more immense than I have imagined. Its history also as impressive. You will see the photos i took shorty as shoon as I find a computer that I can upload my photos to.
