So we've had 3 days of rain!!! And there is not much to do here when it rains apart from drink and play cards and dominos! It hasn't rained constantly all day but when it does it pours!!! It was especially nice being caught in a downfall whilst riding our bikes around the island!
Anyway since all we've been doing is getting to know the local bars and restaurants i'll give you a low down on those! Saturday night was a lot of fun and we started off at Munchies restaurant (and had free drinks courtesy of the very handsome Andy!!!) and then moved on tho Tranquila and Cocoloco, which are both bars on the water with open air decks streching into the sea! Tranquila played a mix of all music and Cocoloco was more reggaeton and reggae and the likes!
After there it was on to Piratas which is located on the 3rd floor of an old lighthouse so the veiws of the island are really good. Here its a mix of music again. Then Casino, which for all of you folks from the north reminded me of Marilos (if thats how you spell it.) It was all reggae, soca, and the local music with lots of hip grinding and the sorts!!!
There is also the amazing treetanic, which is a recently extended bar in the trees like a giant treehouse (but not so good if your drunk!) Its very excentric and the bar, tables and almost everything is made of glass, marbles, seashells so its very pretty!
Then there is Bundu cafe. Here they do the best paninis and they are huge it could feed 3 people! They have a book exchange too, so its a good place to chill out and read or watch cable TV on their comfy sofas. Zanzibar cafe is the only place that does breakfast after 11.30 and their pancakes and french toast is yummy!! Evelyns is open the latest of the restaurants and she cooks up a caribbean storm complete with rice n peas, coleslaw, and cocobread!!! Driftwood is directly opposite our hotel and the food is good there too although they had no french fries so everything came with mashed potato the day we went!
A must try is Mermaids chinese restaurant which serves huge helpings of chinese and fast food! Also their chocolate cake is to die for!!! its well worth the 15 mins bike ride and you don't feel as guilty eating it knowing you rode a bike to get it!!!
Last night we ventured to bar in the bush which was a trek! It was unfortunately for us techno night! But still had a laugh with our new frinds including a guy from Sheffield but then again it may have been the many amaretto sours i had at tranquilla!!! There was some very strange activities going on though. There was a man that just danced around you neighing like a horse, a guy dancing whilst trying to peer over his shoulders all the time as if he had a little person sat on it speaking to him, and a couple who looked like they were trying to do ballet and kung-fu at the same time! But all of the above could have something to do with what we "though" were helium balloons everyone was taking gas from! Friday is hip hop night so will go back then and see if its any better!
There is also a pool hall just further down the road from treetanic.
The beaches aren't that nice here and are man made. So they look a little grubby and the sea is ok to snorkel in but swiming amongst seaweed and grass is not my cup of tea! Also the sandflies here are merciless! Janine had 10 on our 1st day here, which rose to 27 the next day and they get you everywhere possible! When she woke up on the 3rd day with even more we had to take drastic measures and buy everything the pharmacy had for bites which has helped a lot and we are much better now!!!
They also have full moon parties here we missed one a couple of days before we arrived but hopefully there will be another before we go to Roatan!
