So after a total of 14.5 hours on an aeroplane i finally made it to Bali, Indonesia. Here are my findings:
Local Beer: Bintang Pilsener
Slogan: 'Its Bintang time'
Taste: A light refreshing brew
Price: 9000 rupiah (around 55p)
Other than the important facts listed above, bali is a place that has suffered since the bombings of 2002 and last year. We stayed in a place called Jimbaran for two nights which was traditionally Balinese before we moved up the coast to Sanur where we stayed in a really cool little hostel. We then visited the gili islands which are off of lombok (bali's neighbour). This took five hours on a boat which was really ten bits of timber and some string. The journey was rough on the way back but we saw a school (or whatever) of dolphins which was pretty special!! The islands were beautiful with crystal clear seas and the whitest of sands, it was how i had expected bali to be!It was nice not to be hassled by the locals either and so we spent five nights in a little bamboo bungalow 50 metres from the beach. Whilst snorkelling we could see turtles and beautiful corals which alone made the long trip worth it. We then headed back to Bali and visited Kuta beach, which is where the surfers go and also where the bombings occured. After visiting the shrine and doing some shopping we decided that we would leave bali early and avoid anymore James Blunt songs which were played constantly and head for an unplanned three days in Singapore. Thats where i will update next, so hope everyone is good!
love to all of ya, gotta go 'its bintang time'.
