Well yesterday I got up normal time and drove down to Menston station. I had initially intended to drive to my visit to Hull PCT but having spoken to them last week, I discovered that they had "very limited parking on site". Wasn't it lucky I checked beforehand!! Anyway, once I'd found this out, I checked the train situation and found you can get a nice speedy train to Hull from Leeds. They go every hour and take 52 mins. So that's what I did. Because i'd left it late-ish to sort out my travel arrangements, I had to get an "e-ticket". This means you get a reference number and you pick up the ticket from the fast ticket machines at Leed station. I wasn't worried about doing this as I had done it before and it worked fine.
So back to Monday morning. I arrived at Menston station and got a very handy parking spot which was nice. There is a bit of tarmac at the very end of the car park next to the station building which isn't quite big enough to be a legitimate parking space but I've seen people parking there before and knew it was "safe" to do so. So I just reversed in and left the car there. Crazy eh?
Then I had to buy my Menston to Leeds ticket (as there are no fast ticket machines in Menston so have to pick up the fast ticket in Leeds). Now buying a ticket in Menston can sometimes be a pain because the ticket man is a bit grumpy. But when I got to the counter, it wasn't him!! I'm guessing he's off because of Christmas or something. So managed to get a ticket just fine. It's £4.80 return in peak time (drops to just £2.90 after 9.30am, can you believe!?!?). I've just found out it's going up to £5.10 in the New Year though!
Then I went over the little bridge to the Leeds direction platform and the train turned up on time, which was great. It wasn't too busy either - probably because a lot of people are already off work for Xmas. I got a seat but not a proper one - it was one of those fold down ones outside the disabled toilet. Not the most scenic setting! I read the Metro free paper on the way to Leeds and then we arrived in Leeds ontime and I went to collect my e-ticket. Got the ticket fine and then headed over to platform 15 to get my 52 minutes long train journey to Hull!!
More soon folks.........
